Bespoke Arched Door Solutions

Arched aluminium entrance doors bring timeless architectural character to both heritage restorations and contemporary new builds. Every arched door we manufacture is precision-curved using our in-house bending capability — not outsourced to third parties — ensuring exact conformance to your AutoCAD drawings and eliminating the tolerance errors that arise when bending is handled separately from manufacture and installation.

Our arched door range covers the full spectrum of configurations: single entrance doors, double doors for grand entrances, doors with sidelights, and doors with arched fanlights, transoms, or overpanels. Single arched doors suit cottage and terrace entrances where space is limited; double arched doors create grand entrance statements on detached properties, churches, and new build developments. Sidelights — fixed or opening glazed panels flanking the door — extend the opening width and increase natural light to the entrance hall. Arched fanlights sit above the door within the arched head, providing additional light and visual interest whilst retaining a secure, solid door leaf below.

Door Configurations

  • Single arched door: One door leaf within an arched frame — the most common configuration for residential entrances
  • Double arched door: Two door leaves within a wider arched frame — for grand entrances, churches, and institutional buildings
  • Door with sidelights: Door leaf flanked by fixed or opening glazed sidelights — maximises light and visual width of the entrance
  • Door with fanlight: Fixed or opening glazed panel within the arched head above the door leaf — classic Georgian and Victorian entrance configuration
  • Door with transom: Horizontal bar dividing the door leaf from a glazed panel above — common in heritage and conservation area applications
  • Arched bifold entrance: Multi-leaf bifold configuration within an arched frame — for wider openings where a single or double door is impractical

From Survey to Installation

Every arched door project begins with a detailed site survey. Our surveyors measure the structural opening, establish the true arch profile — rise, span, spring point, and profile width — and produce AutoCAD drawings for client and, where required, planning authority review. Manufacture commences only once drawings are approved. The finished door is delivered to site pre-glazed and pre-hardware, ready for installation. Our surveyors return after installation to adjust hardware and verify weathertight performance, ensuring the door operates correctly from day one.

With in-house arch bending, a minimum bend radius of 350mm, and maximum arc of 6000mm, we can manufacture arched doors to virtually any specification. Every arch is precision-bent using our specialist bending machinery — a £50,000+ investment that sets us apart from installers who outsource this critical process.

Glazing Options

Arched doors accommodate the full range of glazing specifications. Standard double-glazed units achieve U-values from 1.0 W/m²K with argon-filled cavities and low-emissivity coatings. For enhanced acoustic performance in urban locations, asymmetric glass configurations reduce external noise transmission. Decorative glazing options include leaded lights, Georgian bars, and sandblasted panels — all manufactured to complement the arched profile of the door.

Aluminium Systems for Arched Doors

We specify two premium aluminium door systems for arched applications, each suited to different architectural styles and performance requirements. Both systems are manufactured to the same performance standards and carry the same warranty, with system selection driven by the visual and planning requirements of the project.

Alitherm 400 Door (Smart Systems)

The Alitherm 400 is a versatile residential door system that accepts arched heads with clean, contemporary profiles. With U-values from 1.4 W/m²K (door leaf including glazed panels), PAS 24:2022 security certification, and Secured by Design Gold Award compliance, it provides the security performance expected of a primary entrance door. Weather performance is tested to EN 12208 Class 4 watertightness and EN 12210 Class C5 wind resistance — appropriate for exposed façades and elevated positions across Surrey and London. The Alitherm 400 is available in dual-colour finish, allowing contrasting powder coat colours on the external and internal face — commonly specified as anthracite grey externally with white internally. All RAL and BS powder coat colours are available.

Alitherm Heritage (Smart Systems)

For period properties, conservation areas, and heritage restorations, the Alitherm Heritage system delivers authentic steel-look astragal bar detailing with arched profiles. The narrow 32mm sightlines and traditional bar configurations replicate the appearance of original steel doors, whilst delivering thermally broken performance with U-values from 1.4 W/m²K and PAS 24:2022 security. Conservation officers across Surrey and London regularly accept the Alitherm Heritage as a suitable like-for-like replacement for original steel-framed doors in conservation areas and listed buildings. The system is available in the same RAL and dual-colour options as the Alitherm 400, with a standard black powder coat the most common specification for heritage applications.

Heritage & Conservation Applications

Arched doors are frequently specified for properties in conservation areas and listed buildings, where planning requirements demand that replacement doors match the original profiles precisely. Our process ensures full compliance at every stage:

  • Profile replication: We produce detailed AutoCAD drawings from site measurements or original architectural drawings, replicating the exact arch radius, spring point, leg height, and profile proportions. Where original doors have been removed, we work from architectural records, historical photographs, or neighbouring examples to reconstruct the correct profile
  • Conservation area compliance: Aluminium arched doors specified in conservation areas must demonstrate that their appearance matches the character of the original. We produce colour-accurate RAL samples and profile section drawings that conservation officers can assess alongside the application
  • Listed Building Consent: For Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, replacement doors require Listed Building Consent in addition to any planning permission. We work directly with conservation officers during the pre-application process to agree specification before consent is sought, reducing the risk of refusal. Our technical packs include section drawings, U-value calculations, and manufacturer system data sheets
  • Matching existing windows: Where arched windows already exist on the property — whether original or previously replaced — we manufacture arched doors to match precisely. Same arch profile, same sightlines, same external finish ensures a coherent appearance across the facade
  • Planning application support: We provide technical drawings, specification schedules, and manufacturer data in the format required by local planning authorities. This documentation is typically required for both conservation area applications and listed building consent submissions

Heritage Restoration Experience

Our experience with heritage projects across Surrey and London means we understand the planning process, the expectations of conservation officers, and the technical requirements of period property restoration. We have supplied arched aluminium doors for Georgian townhouses, Victorian villas, Edwardian schools, and ecclesiastical buildings across the region. In each case, the combination of in-house arch bending, system flexibility, and close working with planning authorities has delivered doors that satisfy both the conservation requirements and the practical performance needs of the building owner.

The planning process for conservation area and listed building applications can add four to twelve weeks to project timelines. We recommend engaging us at pre-application stage so that specification can be agreed with the conservation officer before a formal application is submitted, minimising the risk of delay.
